retrospect 2016

Happy New Year  2017  Everyone!

This has been a busy year up in the high mountains of the Eastern Sierra.... not as much excitement, but just enjoying easy living. We added maple trees and a flower garden in our backyard. We planted several hundred daffodils and  other bulbs in the front and back yard. Of course, it is all covered by snow. We are looking forward to seeing the plants come up in spring though the deer and rabbits may have a head start on them.

Snowing this week, so the ski areas are all open. Wonderful just to stay inside and enjoy cooking  cold weather Norwegian dishes. Have a great day, you all!

maple

Haven't been here for a while. Sometimes, life takes over writing and blogging . At any rate, I am resuming this blog starting with the new plants around our cabin. Today, I got a small maple tree which I am planting in front of the house. Hope it takes root this winter and give us brilliant red foliage next fall.

I always wanted maple trees around our high mountain cabin ... so I am starting with a maple tree today. Maybe I will plant more in the spring if this one can survive winter at 8000 ft elevation.

Spring Collage

collage by zme  spring 2014

Spring brought out a lot of flowers in the garden... most have their glory
for a few days. Was very surprised that the apples are almost ready for picking.
This collage was made early March. Strangely,  the plants seem to know we are
in a drought. Tangerines, cara cara oranges and navels bloomed but developed
few fruits. I think even those that are marble size will eventually drop
due to the drought. We shall see.

mountain fire

copyright z m evensen .. summer 2013

Mountains and valleys are interconnected in their structure and ecosystems. This
was  the smoke from a huge fire near Yosemite. Though we were not in danger
of being the fire's path, the smoke settled down in the Mammoth Lakes area that we
found it hard to breathe. We retreated to Southern California for a few weeks.
Amnazing how beautiful a catastrophe can look.

i have this universe all to myself
this sunday dawn -- alone.
it is the time of loudest silence
and a space for quietest tears.

there is no traffic in the spectrum
between the sadness and the smiles.
it is time to wish for something
like being stardust in your eyes.
